Sleeping in

Today I slept until NOON!!! I haven't done that in years and it felt so good.

Granted, I didn't get to sleep until 2:30, so it really isn't as much sleep as it could have been. But STILL. AWESOME.

Last night we went to Louisville to see Brubeck and it was a bloody fantastic show. He played with his quartet at Memorial Hall downtown, a venue I'd never been to before. The other guys in the quartet are nearly as old as Brubeck is and it is inspiring to watch them all get up there and bring the place down. In fact, there are very few people in the world who get a standing ovation before they've even sat down at the piano.

The best part of seeing the four of them play together is that they just have a ball together. They smile and laugh and carry on the whole time. Being jazz, all the solos are improv, so during the solos, the other three pay close attention and smile and laugh at all the clever references and good licks that the soloist comes up with. They are so fun to watch! Even if you don't like jazz (and you know who you are), it is a show not to miss.

Also, our friends all got along great and there were no problems at all. The only potential hitch was that Patrick's ticket was for seat 11 in our row and the seats ended at 10. Sadly, they did not go to 11. The cute little usher boy rushed off with our ticket and came back with a new one for a few rows back. So we didn't all get to sit together, but, if that's the biggest issue I am happy.
