Get Out the Secret

My dear and lovely Readers,

I have kept you, unknowingly, in the dark. I haven't been posting with my normal fervor lately because I have been hiding a big, giant secret from you, one big enough to make anyone clam up.

Remember this post? The one where I was sad about having a negative pregnancy test? Well, a week after I wrote that, I was still sick, so I took another one. That one was positive. Unmistakably, undeniably, bigger-than-life blue plus sign.

That's the big secret: I'm pregnant!

Let me post the letter that I emailed to my classmates and faculty this week (I have no shame, clearly. But you knew that.):

Hi all,

Forgive me for not telling each of you individually, but I have news that I want to share with all of you. In order to get you all the pertinent information quickly, I've decided to arrange this in a convenient FAQ style.

What's the big news?
Patrick and I are having a baby!

HOLY COW. When?
We're due October 1st, which makes me 15 weeks along now.

Was this planned?
Not exactly.

What about school?

[Student Affairs Dean] and everyone in Student Affairs are angels and have been really helpful and supportive, assuring me repeatedly that the world will not end. I'll be taking 4 - 8 weeks off in the fall, will make up that time over 4th year, and still graduate on time.

Have you been to the doctor yet?

Yep, a few times. The heartbeat is fast, regular, and strong. The ultrasound showed one little white smudge, which I was told was a single fetus (thank God). I did not cry or anything dramatic like that, but I did find it rather difficult to breathe during that time. I was really just relieved that I didn't have stomach cancer, which was next on my differential after pregnancy.

Have you been sick?

Yes, very. But now that I'm in the 2nd trimester, that has mostly gone away and I'm feeling much better and more human. (details upon request)

Will you find out the sex?

Yes. We have that appointment the week of our finals, so if you find the average of the path final to be a little low, know that I'm distracted. Really, this is all to help you guys out. Yep.

Is this why you haven't been in class?

I'd like to say yes... and that wouldn't be a total lie...

Thanks for being an awesome class and great friends. See you all soon and good luck studying!

Best,
Katie
For those of you who are blogosphere-savvy, you will recognize this letter for what it is, and that is a total rip off of Michelle's blog post of her pregnancy. So, as you can see, I am neither creative or original, but smart enough to recognize a good idea when I see one.

As you may expect, there will be MANY more posts devoted to this subject, so all your questions will probably be answered. However, don't let that stop you from leaving a question in the comments. You know how much I love comments.

You have no idea what a relief this is to tell you guys this. Really. I have been dying to tell you.
