SAHW

I read an article recently (New York Times, maybe? Can't put my hands on it to link...) about Stay at Home Wives. Women who are married, have no children, and care for the house and home as their primary occupation. The article was a little odd, making comments that, in this political and economic climate, it is a status symbol for families that they can maintain a lifestyle on one income. Regardless of the status or the surely immaculate houses and fine company they keep, I can only come to one conclusion.

You couldn't pay me enough to be a Stay at Home Wife.

The past few weeks since I returned from Florida and decided to delay going back to school have been among the most difficult I've ever had. I am faced daily with the mind boggling task of coming up with things to do. People to have lunch with, things to clean, books to read, lists to make, shopping to do, something. Anything. And I frequently fail, not able to come up with anything. How do people do it?

At the same time, I can't seem to get anything done. The Turnip's room is still in shambles. I say I'm waiting for the delivery of the crib, but really, I just can't seem to get in there and do anything. Same goes for the basement and my bathroom closet - both things that need to be organized and cleaned out, but I just can't find the motivation. Or the time. Days simultaneously fly by and drag. I spend all day watching the clock for Patrick to come home, only to be interrupted when he does because I'm in the middle of something.

Maybe this is something that I could get used to, find a way to make work. Even the dogs are bored. Since it's so hot outside, and I cannot tolerate the temperature, we're stuck to playing indoor fetch and getting treats. Even that gets old after awhile. Even if you're Myra, who never gets tired of fetch. I know that I should be enjoying this final, quiet time before the baby, but especially without a Turnip to keep me busy, I am going out of my mind. Slowly but surely.

EDIT: Thanks to an awesome anonymous reader for finding this article! Go read the article and tell me what you think...

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I get cabin fever if left to my own devices for more than, say, three days.
