Life and Waiting

First, because I know you’ve been up nights waiting to hear, I passed my boards. (aka BOARDS OMG, also known as Step 2 CK) So, yay! That is a huge relief, and one of the last big hurdles before I can focus on interviews and matching. My score wasn’t a record breaker, but it was good enough. Again, yay!

Second, I finally decided on a car and we’re buying it tomorrow. (Hopefully. How do people do these things and also work? Do fewer people work than I thought or do more people have servants than I thought? How are you supposed to get anything done during the hours of 9am and 5pm weekdays only? Aren’t people WORKING then, and so can’t get various places to sign documents or get other documents out of the lockbox? I don’t understand. Stupid banks and their limited hours.) Once it’s final, I’ll share, but I’m superstitious and don’t want to tell until it’s done and I’ve driven away. You have to promise not to make fun of me. Pinky swear!

Guess what I’m doing this month? No, you don’t have to guess, that would be awkward. I am doing a gross anatomy teaching assistantship! It is so great. I get to attend gross anatomy lectures and go to lab, as well as do the dissections ahead of time and give presentations to the class. During their lab sessions, I and my seven colleagues walk around and help the students find things or explain clinical significance of things or, in one case, say, “I have no idea what that is either! Let’s call over a Ph.D.” I know I said this already, but it is SO GREAT. I’m working with fun people in a low pressure, high learning environment. Instead of all the intensity of the actual class, what with the exams and the oppressive pressure, we just show up, learn as much as we can, and help others learn. How bloody fantastic is that? And the month has been focused on the pelvis! Three cheers for the pelvis!

Want to see a hilarious new site I found? Go here. New obsession, check.

I also wanted to share that my friend Pennsy and his lovely wife MaryMartha, two people for whom I have asked for your prayers/thoughts/whatever several times, have received several bits of good news regarding Pennsy’s cancer, the most important being that the fancy machines can’t find a trace of it in his body, among other miracles. They are learning that this great news isn’t the end of the war, but that their hard work combined with all of the goodwill being sent their way is doing something good. These are people that I love from afar and haven’t seen in several years. Yet, I think of them daily, and hold them very dear. Thank you for your willingness to pray for/think of/whatever for them. I love you, too.

Finally for now, the most exciting thing happening in my family is that the Baby Mama is about to pop out The Best Infant Nephew Ever any second. Seriously, any second. Like, waiting by the phone and when she does call the first thing she says is “not in labor” any second. Weeeee! So excited! So The Best Toddler Nephew Ever is going to spend some time at our house in the near future and I am super, duper excited! The only one not bouncing off the walls about this is the Baby Mama herself, who is more in the constant anger/near tears, get-this-thing-out-of-me stage. She does not find my comments of “completely normal, nothing to do for that” helpful at all, and I fear that our once close relationship is now permanently damaged because I told her that the fact that she was vomiting and having bad back pain was good news.

I have missed you, friends.

I did the anatomy TA as a fourth year as well. It was pretty awesome. You get to apply what you know from all your clinical work and it starts to make sense. It's kind of weird and cool all at the same time.

Congrats on passing step 2 CK!
