Take It Easy

In a really nerdy way, I kind of thought that studying for boards would be fun. Just a little fun. Going to the library, learning all kinds of neat stuff, running into classmates, etc. For those of you in medicine, you already know the outcome here. For those blessed ones who were smart enough to pick something else to do with your lives, here's the rub: it's actually no fun at all. Not even a little bit.

I am no stranger to hard work and pride myself on my work ethic (I wish I could pride myself on my fund of knowledge. Alas...) so having a relatively rigorous schedule and being stressed doesn't really phase me much. This, however, is different. This is more than just being somewhere for a long time and it's different than being busy at work. Those things I could handle. Literally, this is sitting in a hard, non-cushioned chair for approximately 10 hours a day and staring frightfully at information that you need to know but don't. It's exhausting. It's confining. It's painful, both figuratively and literally. In short, it's NO FUN.

I decided to take a mini-personal day today. I've been studying really well for about a week and a half, so I slept in a bit this morning and am camping out on my sofa in my pajamas and reading over notes that way. I'm hoping that my back starts feeling better and that my attitude improves. There are two and a half weeks left until my exam, which at once feels like an eternity and just around the corner.

EBM shows that taking a break actually helps to retain knowledge instead of all out cramming 24/7.
We are currently doing brain studies... Also as your anxiety goes up your cognitive function decreases... so you really do need to relax!!!
Take it from a professional!
I prescribe relaxation for my Katie!

Yep! It sucks! And then it ends and you have free time. And you and I will get to hang out again. Know that I am around before of after for hanging out and general comfort needs.
