After surviving three baby showers, being blessed by the overwhelming generosity of family and friends, and tackling the serious case of denial that I'd built up, I threw myself into the nursery yesterday with the intention of DEALING with this black hole of a room. It was full of gift bags and boxes and giant, unopened cardboard boxes of treasures requiring assembly. I decided to organize the takeover into steps.
Step One: Get the goodies out of the bags/boxes and sort the wrapping to save.
Step Two: Arrange the goodies into some kind of order, including deciding what to keep and what to return.
Step Three: Assemble the larger things.
Step Four: Find homes for everything.
Step Five: Disassemble the diaper cake, sort into sizes, put away into newly assembled changing table.
Step Six: Take out the trash and recycling generated from the assembly process.
Step Seven: Identify remaining gaps in Baby Inventory.
Step Eight: Collapse.
Overall the process went well. I thought that it would take me a few hours to do all of this, as I'd already opened everything and so knew what we had and didn't. However, it took about nine hours. Partly because we got lots of books that required reading, partly because I had some difficulty with some of the assembly, but mostly because there was A LOT to do. But it's coming along nicely now and I'm feeling a bit calmer about the whole thing.
Today I'm sleepy and want to just lounge around and do nothing. However, I have a doctor's appointment, a lunch date, and, most important, THE CRIB COMES TODAY. I think that this might really seal the deal - I might just go a little loopy when I see all that undeniably baby stuff in the room that we are calling a nursery. The closer we get to our due date, I am excited but also feeling that I'm marching toward an unknown fate that I have been promised will guarantee that I'll get less sleep than I do now, which sounds a little miserable.
Maybe I'm melodramatizing just a bit. Perhaps a nap will help.

3 Readers rock!:
Yay for getting the nursery in shape! Hope you'll post pictures when it's done :)
The wee bundle will sleep in your room for the first 6 weeks or so, no?
You'll need a bassinet too eh, for the first month or two?
